We are Fox Class

Welcome to the Year 1 class page.

Mrs Mansfield is the class teacher in Fox class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Pearson is the class teacher on a Thursday and Friday. We are supported by Mrs Pester and Mrs Young across the week.

Please note, Fox PE days are:

You can come to school wearing your PE kit on these days.

You can access Oxford Owl online and read RWI books from home. Check your child's reading diaries to find log in details.

Communication with Parents and Carers

At St Mary Infants we use Class Dojo to inform you about our class learning, news, updates and as a parent-teacher communication tool.  We also use Dojo to share the children's success in school using Portfolios and we use Dojo points as part of our reward system in school. Class Dojo is password protected so you will need to log in using the details we have emailed to you. Please do keep in touch through Class Dojo messenger!

Our Learning

We follow Read, Write, Inc. for our phonics learning. Last term we spent recapping set 2 sounds. This term we will be learning new set 3 sounds. We will be learning to read words containing these new sounds as well as practicing applying them in our writing.

By the end of Year 1, children are expected to be able to read and write a set of Common Exception words. These are words that do not follow regular spelling patterns and are not phonetically decodable. The image below is the list of these words

At our school, our handwriting is taught in cursive. In Year 1, we learn our 'lead-in' lines so we are ready to join our writing in Year 2. Please follow the link below to LetterJoin website and use the login provided on Dojo:

As a school we follow the National Curriculum for maths and we have a focus on teaching for Mastery.
