In Phonics, we will be continuing to revisit our Phase 3 sounds and will be learning some new Phase 5 sounds. We will be focusing on applying our knowledge of these sounds to read real and alien words. We will also be practicing accurately reading and spelling common exception words such as said, you and they.
In Literacy, we will be developing our story writing skills. Our first focus text will be No-Bot: the Robot with No Bottom. We will start by learning the story off by heart using a Talk4Writing approach. After we are familiar with the story, we will then begin to innovate by changing key elements such as the main character. We will end the term by focusing on non-fiction writing, and will be using How to Catch Santa as our focus text. We will be writing lists, letters and instructions based on the text.
In Maths, we will be continuing to practice addition and subtraction strategies. We will be representing our understanding using different models such as part-part-wholes and bar models. We will then be developing our understanding of place value and the number system, with a particular focus on numbers to 20. In addition, we will be recapping 2D and 3D shape names and properties.
In Science, we will be exploring different materials. We will be learning to identify key materials such as wood, metal and glass, and apply this to identify what different objects are made from. We will be conducting simple experiments, such as finding out which materials are magnetic and which materials are waterproof.
