Being healthy is fundamental to a child's development. At St. Mary's we closely follow the Government 'Every Child Matters' agenda which aims to ensure children are healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and finally achieve economic well-being.
We have also achieved the Healthy Schools Status Award. This is an essential aspect of school life, and the award shows the importance we place on the development of the whole child.
In addition to our daily Leap into life and Wake and shake sessions, we have timetabled Gymnastic, Dance and Games sessions. We also invite Dance groups and experienced P.E. teachers into school to support our healthy living approach. The 'Life Caravan' is also part of our curriculum which encourages children to consider right and wrong choices in life. Daily, we offer 'free' fruit to all children and encourage children to bring in water to drink during the day.
We are also introducing the Danish Forest School concept into our curriculum. Please see below for more information on Forest Schools.
